Whilst it’s easy to sometimes get lost in the great depths of the internet, trawling every nook and cranny of it’s creative nucleus, in search of the next best thing to write about, it’s not surprising that, most of the time, what you’re looking for is right beneath your nose, so long as you’re looking in the right places to start with.

This is precisely the case with the stunning pieces you see above, courtesy of Erik B. Krenz, an American Fine Artist & Illustrator, who describes himself as a current resident of the “lovely, but sometimes very cold city of Minneapolis” and is just one of the many, hugely talented artists who maintain an active presence here on Tumblr.

In a brief exchange of messages, Krenz told us that “[If he’s] not working feverishly on freelance or personal projects, he likes to jog around one of the cities many beautiful lakes, or play piano with his cat louie by his side” and whilst the lakeside-jogging and piano-playing does sound delightful, with such a stunning style, as shown in his often gaming-inspired artwork, we can only hope his beautiful work long continues.

I just went back through over 900 liked posts and dug out all the art tutorials so i can keep track of them. I guess this might be helpful to some of you guys, so here you go.

Here we go then!

Freeware

Alchemy - this is a really fun program. You play around making abstract shapes until you start to see something in them, kind of like a Rorschach test. Then you use the shapes as a base to draw it from.
MyPaint - a pretty decent painting program that also has the benefit of working on Unix systems.
openCanvas 1.1 - I haven’t used openCanvas in years but it was a nice program with a pretty unique feel to it.
ArtRage - Only used this a couple of times donkey’s years ago just before I got oC, but I’ve heard good things about it.
The GIMP - In a similar vein to Photoshop, but free. I couldn’t get on with it when I tried it out a few years ago, but it’s pretty popular and is available on Unix systems and Macs.

Sketchbook copic: a bit different program

Not-free-ware

Photoshop - Standard painting fare. Probably the most flexible program (particularly the latest versions) but not designed to act in a “natural” way. If you’ve used it for painting versus something like Painter you know what I mean. Who the fuck pays for it though? Google “Photoshop tumblr masterpost” and take your pick.
Paint Tool Sai - Far more affordable and definitely worth paying for if you can. The brushes are very decent (especially when they’ve been tweaked a little), the gui is simple and intuitive, and I dare you to find a program with which making smooth lineart is easier.
Corel Painter - My program of choice for most things. More tools than you could ever possibly use and pretty cheap on a student license, providing that you can prove you’re a student! It’s got a few bugs but if you want realism or a more natural feel than PS or SAI this is the program for you.

How I wish our planet’s movement was this apparent while staring at the night sky. It could probably make a lot more people realize just how tiny we are compared to this vast unexplored galaxy above our heads.

Hello,

I am reaching out to you with a cry for help: My 15 year old sister, Bedria Williams, ran away from home (Creswell, Oregon) on 1/11/13. She was last seen in Sacramento California on 1/19/13.

Here is what little information my family knows:
We believe she traveled to Portland, Oregon on the night of 1/11/13, where she may have made contact with an ex-con. From there, it is clear from a series of phone calls that she somehow made her way to Sacramento, California – My Mother received a restricted phone call from a woman who said she saw Bedria in Michigan, she also said that Bedria was safe but didn’t want to come home. We were able to trace the phone call and found out that it was a Sacramento phone number, the phone call was not made in Michigan. It is clear this woman was lying. My Father called this same Sacramento phone number and they told him that Bedria was with them. While attempting to go to Sacramento to find Bedria, my Dad received a phone call from the same number and was told that he was never going to see his daughter again. The Sacramento Police looked for Bedria at the house where the phone number was registered, but she was not there.
This was on 1/19/2013 and we haven’t heard anything since. There is a very real problem with sex trafficking in Sacramento, and we are extremely worried that she will get caught up in it.
I have contacted all of the news stations in both Portland and Eugene Oregon, as well as the stations in Sacramento. So far I have not been able to get our story aired on any station. I was told that they do not cover stories like Bedria’s because she ran away. 4 days after I rec’d that email that news station aired a story about a 14 year old boy who ran away from home, he just happened to be white.
I don’t know what else to do besides ask for your help in getting her name and face out there for everyone to see. I fear that we may never see Bedria again. Is there anything you can do to help my sister Bedria, and my family?
